Electrical Device Safety

ELECTRICAL DEVICE SAFETY

  • Lamp must be placed on a surface that is far from any flammable material.
  • Use light bulb that are correspond to the light wattage.
  • Use a protector to protect the bulb from broken if the light hits a hard bang.

OUTDOOR ELECTRICAL POWER

  • Electrical equipment that are installed outdoor like at the porch must be weather proof.
  • Do not use wiring connector for neon lights or "blinking" lights.
  • Do not use electrical equipment outdoor if the ground is wet except the equipment has passed the test and can be used there.
  • Do not use wiring connector for outside light.

ELECTRICAL CABLE

  • Do  not touch power cable - you might get an electric shock or a bad burnt.
  • Keep ladders (especially metal ladders) far from power cable.
  • Report power cable damage and marked the area as a warning to everyone nears it.

WARNING SIGN

Identify electrical problems that existed before electrical shock and fire incident :-

  • Recurring problem such as fuse disconnection or supply disconnection.
  • There are electric shock when touching electrical equipment.
  • The smell of rubber burnt that came from electrical equipment.
  • Lights blinking. Do not wait until the problem get bigger. Called authorize Tenaga Nasional Berhad or qualified technician.

ELECTRIC SHOCK STATISTIC

  • Every year electrick shock and fire cause hundreds dead and thousands injured. A few basic electrical safety can lower your risk.

CIRCUIT AND FUSE DAMAGE

  • If the fuse burnt or wiring damage happens that cause supply disconnection, do not return it to original state. Identify the causes that the incident occurs and solve the problem.
  • Every fuse at your home must have measurement in terms of capability to handle the electric burden. When you changed the fuse, make sure it can handle the circuit.
  • Dress iron and other heating equipment uses a lot of electic current. Do not use the plug more than one in the same socket or circuit.

CIRCUIT BREAKER (ELCB)

  • Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) can minimize the risk org electic shock when circuit damage happens and the electric equipment react faster than normal fuse breaker. ELCB are inexpensive and must be installed at every home. Monthly test should be done by pressing the 'test button'.

ELECTRIC SOCKET

  • Three pin electric socket are accepted with one pin bigger than the other.
  • Make sure your plug are suitable with the electric socket.
  • If you have small kids at home, place a safety plastic cover at the socket.

ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

  • Electrical appliances that are bought must have label that shows the appliances has passed the test from SIRIM.
  • Keep electrical appliances that emits heat like dress iron at least one meter from curtains, furnitures and other flammable materials.
  • Make sure the cord are unplugged for small electrical appliances such as toasters or coffer makers when not in use.
  • Have an airspace that are sufficient around electical component such as the computer or stereo system to prevent excessive heat.

WIRING / CONNECTOR

  • Use wiring accordingly.
  • Replace damaged wiring.
  • Make sure extention did not get in a way or hidden under the carpet.
  • Use connector approved by SIRIM
